Koh-I-Noor Records, which belongs the mighty JuNouMi fam, has just bombarded us with its long-awaited, second release. And it’s now become clear that it was worth the wait. For even the pickiest listener will be able to fish out some thrilling, thought-provoking and simply brilliant elements constiuting these seven (or nine if you go for digital version) tracks, which make you contemplate the current advancement pace of the local electronic music domain.

The main man here is Jackname Trouble, whose musical craft seems to be progressing unhastefully, steadily and wisely. Hailing from Olsztyn, he is renowned for his apearances within Pets Recordings or Recognition, which defined him as an unorthodox musician, who effortlessly explores both deep club sounds and intricate, from-London-to-California post-hiphop sonic hybrids.
This intriguing compilation of tracks and remixes constitutes a somewhat post-modern fusion of the latest trends as well as sounds which are presently at the point of drifting towards collective subconsciousness. The core material originated in 2006-2008. Mind you, for a musical layman it’s merely four or six years. In fact, it’s ages in the world of music and, if you’re familiar with the context, you will unwaveringly parallel these meticulously designed sonic miniatures with the likes of Dabrye or FlyLo.

‘Pościelówa’ is a play-by-ear cooperation with the enfant terrible of polish post-house scene Lukasz Seliga aka SLG. It’s a crispy-sounding tune which freely and playfully deconstructs the hiphop paradigm and juxtaposes it with Arthur-Russel-like experimental modes and firm sounds straight from the South.

‘Slow Motion’ employs a particular type of nostalgic melody by means of digital virtuosity – which instantly evokes the matchless Telefon Tel Aviv debut album.

‘Orangeade’, on the other hand, is sheer tension, darkness; a quagmire of sequential order – unprecedently original piece. Any attempt to categorize it seems futile.

These unique compositions are accompanied by equally masterful remixes: Eltron John, the Koh-I-Noor mentor, arrests his inspirations within the 90′s chicago house and modern deep-house variations, which prove to be effectively coherent and highly danceable.
Rhythm Baboon transforms the subtle ‘Slow Motion’ into an astonishingly gloomy symphony of broken beats pulsating with dynamics and melancholy – all at the same time.
Finally, the EP concludes with reinterpretations, which were shortlisted via the label’s remix competition.
Polyp manages to emphasize ‘Poscielowa’s hiphop rooting.
Maskin and Liquid Molly lean towards the omnipresent, inter-genre synergies with heavy bass, sharply sliced samples and dizzying rhythms.
Jackname Trouble brilliantly exposes (yet again) his immense talents and, consequently, highlights the promising and exciting musical platform, which Koh-I-Noor aspires to become really soon. Post-modern rhythmical breaks ornamented with absorbing melodies have never sounded better!
